At PLS, we believe that every human being deserves to be treated as such, including our incarcerated peers. Every day, we work tirelessly to create a world in which we can provide the appropriate rehabilitation to those most in need.
Join us in defending the basic rights of the incarcerated population by donating and supporting our work. Your generous tax deductible contribution is crucial to ensuring we can continue holding those in power responsible for those in their custody. Your support is what makes our work possible.
Including Prisoners’ Legal Services in your will or estate plan ensures your contribution to a more just and equitable society.
Planned gifts can be made through your estate or financial plans and can include bequests designated in a will or living trust, as well as life income gifts. Through your support of Prisoners’ Legal Services, you are ensuring that your legacy is one that aligns with your principles and values.
Here are a few ways you can include PLS in your estate planning:
Specific Bequest: A particular dollar amount, property or real estate, or a percentage of your estate
For example:
“I give and bequeath the sum of $________ [cash amount or percentage amount] to Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, Boston, Massachusetts (tax identification number 04-2523362), for its general purposes.”
or
“I give and devise to Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, Boston, Massachusetts (tax identification number 04-3490614), for its general purposes, all right, title, and interest owned by me at the time of my death in the land and buildings situated at _________.”
To ensure that your wishes are followed exactly, we suggest including PLS’ full name, address, and non-profit Tax ID number in your will:
Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts
50 Federal St., 4th Floor
Boston, Massachusetts 02110
501(c)(3) Tax ID number: 04-2523362
You can enter PLS’ Tax ID number 04-2523362 if you are asked for the beneficiary’s social security number, employer identification number (EIN) or taxpayer identification number in any estate planning documents.
Residuary Bequest: all or part of what is remaining after payment of debts, expenses, and specific bequests
For Example:
“I give, devise and bequeath to Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, Boston, Massachusetts (tax identification number 04-2523362), for its general purposes, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, of whatsoever kind and wheresoever situated.”
or
“I give, devise and bequeath to Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, Boston, Massachusetts (tax identification number 04-2523362), for its general purposes, _____ percent of all of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, of whatsoever kind and wheresoever situated.”
