SUMMARY:Help Bring Them Home: A Medical Parole Pro Bono Primer
DESCRIPTION:October is Pro Bono Month! This program is made possible by the Boston Bar Foundation. \nRight now\, incarcerated elders across Massachusetts are facing terminal illness\, dementia\, and end-of-life care behind bars\, and they need advocates who know how to fight for their release. Medical parole (compassionate release for people who are terminally ill or permanently incapacitated) is one of the only paths home\, but the legal process is complex and the need for skilled pro bono representation is urgent. \nJoin the medical parole team at BBF Grantee\, Prisoners’ Legal Services\, for a training that will prepare you to represent incarcerated clients seeking medical parole. You’ll learn: \n\nHow medical parole works under Massachusetts law\, and who qualifies\nHow to build and present a case for terminal illness or permanent incapacitation\nThe unique challenges facing incarcerated elders\, including dementia and end-of-life care in prison\nWhat it takes to be an effective advocate in these high-stakes\, time-sensitive cases\n\nRegister to Attend on the BBA Website \n
