After her son died by suicide in the Berkshire County jail, Barbara Gallo is fighting to change the law

Massachusetts prisons and jails have seen more than 140 deaths since 2022, yet the reasons people are dying are harder to pin down.

There is no publicly accessible data on in-custody death causes in Massachusetts.
